The
Queen's Head is a gem of a country pub - a tile hung building, full
of exposed oak beams, dating from the early 17th century, a magnificent
view across the Brede valley to Rye and beyond, a famous collection
of farming implements, a position in a quiet lane in the village of
Icklesham midway between the Cinque Ports of Rye and Hastings.
As a place for a special occasion,
to become a regular at, or just drop into now and then, it has a wealth
of assets to offer once you have been welcomed in.
The Queen's Head has appeared
in the Campaign for Real Ale's Good Beer Guide every year since the
current proprietors arrived in 1984. The accolade of Sussex Pub of the
Year was awarded to the pub in 1998, remaining a consistently firm favourite
for all those seeking the finest cask conditioned beers.
Home cooked food has been at
the top of the agenda for eating at The Queen's for many years, with
an extensive, not expensive, wide ranging menu with plenty of fresh,
locally bought produce in the recipes.
The interior of the pub has vaulted
ceilings, split level floors, three bars constructed in one area from
church pews and in two others from a bank counter (in walnut & mahogany
!). There are over 70 places for sitting spread around the whole of
the inside. A huge inglenook fireplace with a fireback dating from the
reign of Charles 1, together with two woodburning stoves keep The Queen's
Head warm and cosy through the winter months.
The exterior of the pub holds
two gardens with plenty of seating overlooking the surrounding countryside.
A wendy house in one garden and a climbing frame in the other helps
keep youngsters occupied, while there is a boule pitch for the grown
ups to enjoy. The car park itself is substantial, with space for around
70+ cars.
Visiting The Queen's Head is
quite straightforward as the bars of the pub are open all day.
We look forward to seeing you
!
