PRESS RELEASE 1 JULY 2005 Queen’s Head award from CAMRA A few weeks ago, on May 7, The Queen's Head at Icklesham was presented with the prestigious award “CAMRA SE Sussex Pub of the Year”. The local branch of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, were impressed by the pub’s ongoing commitment to serving cask conditioned ales in prime condition from brewers large and small. The Queen's Head has been listed in the exclusive “Good Beer Guide”, the bible for real ale enthusiasts for 20 years – the ownership of the pub has remained unchanged during all this time. The latest edition of the guide describes the pub as a “rural classic” which “caters for everyone…in all seasons” There are 72,000 members in CAMRA, who voluntarily visit pubs nationwide, and via their local branch report back to the Guide as to the continuing quality (or not !) of the ales on offer. The village of Icklesham, five miles east of Hastings, has even had it’s own beer festival in recent years. Last year landlords Ian Mitchell and Lee Norcott organised the 1st Queen's Head’s “Hops Weekend” in September where ale lovers enjoyed a choice of 12 cask ales along with live music, fresh hops for sale and many other attractions. The 2nd Queen’s Head Hops Weekend runs from the 9th to 11th of September this year, featuring 12 cask ales including one brewed especially for The Queen's Head, live music, laser clay shoot and much more– please check the website or direct with the pub for details. |
